DOLORES ” A second candidate is in the running for Scott Tipton’s soon-to-be vacated state house seat.

Business owner Mark Rodgers, R-Dolores, says he is electable to the 58th District, and has a great desire to help change the direction of the state.

“I believe the state and the United States are headed toward socialism, and I would like to change that direction. We are a conservative state, generally speaking, and I would like it to be conservative again,” Rodgers, 55, said Tuesday.

He said he believed the governor’s office, state house and senate were “headed toward liberalism,” which he was against.

Rodgers said he defines liberalism as higher taxes, more government, socially liberal and liberal policies.

Government spending, he said, is out of control, and he would work to shrink it.

“Typically, our governor, house and senate, their answer to our problems is (throwing) more money at it. We need to be looking at ways to save money, cut spending and still provide services,” Rodgers said.

" Sounds like my kind of guy, the other guy Don Coram is way too liberal and has a reputation for malingering w/ the opposite party.I am surprised that the local democratic party has not already endorsed Coram. Rodgers is for less government and that is fine by me. "
