“I was most concerned about my three-year-old daughter (Page). When we moved here, I started looking ... I wanted some place I felt she could go for the next three years with the same educational base as she was getting in Texas,” mother Lori Sharp said. “There were great places in Montrose, but they were more like daycare. I was looking for a step above.”

What Sharp found was Bright Beginnings, owned by Montrose native Amber Gardner.

“She (Gardner) has such a strong passion for educating the kids in a fun way,” Sharp said.

Gardner started providing home child care after taking parental leave from her teaching job at Pomona Elementary School during her fourth pregnancy. She intended to return to teaching, which has been her passion since she was a young girl. But after opening a preschool program in her garage, her direction changed.

“I was surprised on so many levels,” Gardner said. “I loved it and had a huge waiting list.”

" It is great that there is high quality center in Montrose however a center environment is not the best environment for ALL children. It is too bad that the Daily Press doesn't report on any of the wonderful family child care homes in Montrose. Many of them offer the same things, including preschool that can be found in a center only on a much smaller and more personal level. "
