Good government for all, not just wealthy

Re: Hypocrisy rife, misinformation and opinions

Sen. John McCain spoke to a couple hundred church members in Arizona in October and complained about President Obama’s inability to keep his campaign promises. Well, golly gee, if the conservatives would quit throwing roadblocks at everything he tries to do, perhaps some of those promises might come to fruition.

The Republicans in Congress and the ‘tea partiers,’ urged on by the powerful and wealthy health insurance companies, continue to rail about the cost of health care reform but say nothing about the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. What would 40,000 more troops in Afghanistan cost? That war has been estimated to cost $1 million per military person per year. So, let’s see, 40,000 times 1 million equals 40 billion dollars. (I think that’s a conservative estimate myself.) Where is the outrage at that outlay of cash? Politicians want to be re-elected, so screw their constituents! Forty-six million people are without access to health care, but the insurance companies want to get even richer, so screw those people. The oil and gas companies definitely need more money in their coffers, so let’s just drill everywhere and screw the country. The conservatives don’t want regulation of Wall Street and the banking industry because that’s too much government intervention, so let them do what they want and screw the country.

Doesn’t patriotism imply love of country? Doesn’t a good government take care of all its citizens, not just the rich and successful? Why can’t those who suffer and are hungry help themselves? Shouldn’t a country founded on Christian principles be willing to help those who need encouragement and sustenance?

Frankly, I find the hypocrisy of some people in this country to be nauseating; and I have news for those who consider themselves well informed and get their information from the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly, Beck and The Drudge. Check the facts for yourself. Most of what they spout is based on less than the truth.
