MONTROSE ” The ongoing investigation into the September fire that destroyed a commercial building prompted authorities to reconsider an earlier determination that the blaze was accidental.

The Sept. 12 fire destroyed Papa Murphy’s, The Boys’ Bakery and Developer Resource, Inc., all tenants at the 1521 Ogden Rd. building. It caused an estimated $3 million in damages, plus another $1 million in loss of contents.

“We found evidence that may suggest this may be suspicious,” Montrose Police Cmdr. Gene Lillard said Monday.

He was not able to elaborate. The detective handling the investigation was out of town for an emergency Monday.

Authorities said in September the fire, which began in the venting system above the bakery’s oven, appeared accidental in origin.

The investigation continued after the initial determination, which may now be revised.

" Definitely relocate! Access to and parking for all the businesses in that little complex was so inadequate. Developers need to consider that this is western Colorado where 4-door, long-bed pickups are so prevalent. Not everyone drives little "pocket cars" for which these lots seem to be designed - like Oxbow Crossing too. "
