The program kicked off Sept. 11 and on Friday, most of the collections were picked up by Sharing Ministries, which totaled several thousand pounds.

Sharing Ministries has seen a 35-percent increase in the number of people seeking food for their families, according to the organization. There are more than 4,000 families in the five-county area it serves that are helped by the food bank each month. To be able to provide, Sharing Ministries counts on the community for monetary and food donations, along with volunteerism.
James called out to schools in early September and five schools signed up for the program. She encouraged the participating schools ” Northside, Oak Grove and Pamona elementary schools, Centennial Middle School and Vista Charter School ” to create a group that would manage related activities, and encouraged creative and challenging methods. She provided resources in the form of posters, lesson plans and a list of collectable items. These resources are now available at Sharing Ministries’ Web site for anyone’s use.
