MONTROSE—With emotions running high in Lloyd McMillan gymnasium Tuesday evening, the MHS volleyball team didn't disappoint as they defeated the Lady Tigers in three straight sets.

Montrose won 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17 to improve to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in the Southwestern League.

For the four seniors that are on the team it was a bitter sweet ending to their final home game of the season.

"We were really nervous coming into this game," senior setter Jori Ayers said. "We devoted this match to killing the ball and getting out of here with a victory in three sets. It was just a great feeling that we were able to accomplish that goal and get it done."

Despite winning all three sets the Lady Indians did struggle through the second set on trying to stop GJHS's tip-ball approach. The Lady Indians saw their lead slowly get smaller by every tip-ball the Lady Tigers were able to get over the net.

"They (Grand Junction) had to resort to that because they couldn't figure out our defense," MHS head coach Shane Forrest said. "But we eventually made adjustments to stop them from using that play."

The Lady Indians cruised through the third and final set, winning by eight points, their biggest margin on the evening.

Forrest was pleased overall with the team's effort and thought that her group played hard and was glad that her seniors could enjoy one more win in the friendly confines of Lloyd McMillan gymnasium.

"I would've of liked to seen the second set set go a little bit better than it did, but those are challenges that we can over come," she said. "A win is a win and I was so proud of our seniors. They've shown great leadership and dedication all season, and I'm just proud of them and our team for getting this win."

Leading the way for the Indians on the evening were sophomore Emma Cooling's 23 digs, followed by Courtney Geesing's 14.  Geesing led the team with 13 kills, while fellow senior Kelsie Dardis added 10 kills. Dardis, Maranda Ryser and Ayers each had two blocks.

Up next for MHS is a weekend trip to Montezuma-Cortez on Friday evening and a trip to Durango Saturday morning.
