RIDGWAY STATE PARK — The victim in Sunday's motorcycle-truck wreck near Ridgway was identified as 43-year-old Julie Laux from Green Valley, Calif.

Colorado State Patrol responded to an accident at the Dutch Charlie entrance to Ridgway State Park around 4 p.m. Sunday.

Grand Junction residents, 76-year-old Reginald Sanderson, driver, and 75-year-old Beryl Sanderson, passenger, were northbound in a left-turn-only lane to the Dutch Charlie entrance in a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

According to the State Patrol, the Silverado turned in front of the motorcycle.

"The motorcycle then skidded and the right side of the motorcycle collided with the right side of the pickup," said Mike Baker, trooper with the CSP. "The motorcycle then spun around ... and ejected both the driver and the passenger."

The motorcycle skidded about 177 feet, according to the accident report.

Thomas and Julie sustained serious injuries and were taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital, Baker said. Neither person was wearing a helmet, although helmets were available, he said.

Julie was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. at the hospital, according to the report.

Thomas was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction Sunday, according to MMH. He is in fair condition as of 3 p.m. Monday, according to St. Mary's.

Reginald and Beryl were not injured and were wearing seat belts.
