COLONA — A suspect is in custody in the death of an Illinois cyclist who was struck and killed on Highway 550 yesterday.

David J. Tomlinson, 56, of Cuba, Ill. likely died of multiple traumatic injuries, Montrose County Coroner Dr. Thomas Canfield said this morning. An autopsy will be conducted to confirm the initial finding. The manner of death is classed as homicide.

The Colorado State Patrol said Tomlinson was riding southbound on the highway near Colona Thursday afternoon, when a green-colored Ford Expedition, or similar vehicle, hit him from behind and drove off.
