MONTROSE — Despite election results that separated DMEA District No. 3 candidates Kathleen Welt and Tony Prendergast by only 33 votes, a recount will not take place.
Welt notified DMEA officials that she would not request a recount on Tuesday afternoon, only hours before the deadline for her decision. She explained that after reviewing the regulations and rules that DMEA officials follow during the vote-counting process, she felt confident the best possible job had been done.

Welt also noted that in past elections, DMEA officials have had a record of successful election tabulation results, which added to her confidence in the board.
In last Thursday’s election results, Prendergast received a total of 2,634 votes, and Welt received 2,591. Welt was given the opportunity to request a recount because the difference of votes between she and Prendergast was less than 2 percent of the votes cast in the election.
In District 1, Michael Sramek ran unopposed, and received 4116 of the votes cast. In District 2, Ed Marston received 2,734, and defeated Kenneth Byers, who received 2,461 votes.
